Civil War Era Colt Model 1860 Army Revolver with Period Holster
Manufactured in 1863, with a 3 screw frame cut for a shoulder stock. The top of the barrel has the one line New York U. S. America address flanked by dashes, "COLTS / PATENT" on the left side of the frame and the Texas naval battle scene on the cylinder. Inspector initials "GG" are found the left side of the barrel just to the right of the wedge screw, "H" on the rebated portion and "HH" on the front portion of the cylinder and "H" on the right rear of the barrel. Matching serial number on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, and backstrap and partial number "1978" on the cylinder. The wedge is secured to tightly to remove. Fitted with a smooth walnut grip stamped with legible boxed cartouche on the left side, the right side has been obliterated. A tag on this revolver states that it was carried by Cpl James Smith Ogilvie who was a member of Company A, 45th Tennessee Regiment, C.S.A. on one side and the other that it was purchased from his Grandson. There are also copies of archive records showing J.S. Ogilvie as a member of the 45th infantry, Company A and other documents including a copy of the Company Muster Roll for J. S. Ogilvie for Feb. 28 to Aug. 31, 1862 showing that he enlisted on December 17, 1861 and was discharged on June 13, 1862. In short, Cpl. James Ogilvie may have owned this revolver at some time, but could not have carried it during his enlistment, as the revolver was manufactured after his service. The revolver is complete with Civil War Era brown leather flap holster with a narrow belt.

Very good. All of the metal surfaces have a smooth silver gray patina with some pin prick type flash pitting on the breech end of the barrel and some minor pitting on the muzzle. There are a few minor dings around the wedge. The brass has an aged patina. The grip is good with exception of the right side where the cartouche has been obliterated leaving an uneven area. Otherwise there are a few minor dents. The cylinder scene is faint and the markings are clear. The action is very tight. The holster and belt are fair with moderate to heavy age cracking, heaviest on the flap and belt. The stitching is tight.
