Civil War Conversion Musket - .69 Cal SERIAL # : None DATE OF MANF: 1845 (Daniel Nippes, Mill Creek, PA , model 1840 musket original configuration) DESIGN: .69 caliber single shot muzzleloader. 42in round barrel. MATERIAL/FINISH/COMPOSITION: All metal components are blued. Full length military configuration walnut stock with comb, FEATURES: On the lock forward of the hammer is stamped ~D. NIPPES over U.S.~ Daniel Nippes (1796 - 1848) was a major manufacturer and government contractor. Rear of the hammer and perpendicular to the plane of the barrel is stamped ~MILL over CREEK over PA over 1845~. 3 barrel bands. Angular bayonet underneath front of barrel. A coin from 1849 is recessed into the left side side of the stock just above the trigger with a small square nail. Steel butt plate stamped ~US~ on the upper tang. Steel ramrod with trumpet shaped end and swelled shank. CONDITION: Very Good. All original parts. Metal surfaces are smooth with sharp edges. Some moderate pitting shows on the rear of the barrel and nipple area. Butt stock shows mild gouges, pressure dents and scratches commensurate with the age of the rifle.
