Civil War Contract Starr 1858 Double Action Army Revolver
Approximately 23,000 of these revolvers were manufactured in the late 1850s and early 1860s, most of them for the government. Standard "STARR. ARMS. Co. NEW. YORK." address on left side of frame, "STARR'S PATENT JAN. 15, 1856" on the right. Serial numbers match on the front of the barrel lug, on the cylinder, in the hammer well and front of the hammer. There are small "K" inspection marks on most of the components. The revolver is fitted with a smooth one piece walnut grip with a faint oval cartouche on each side.
BBL: 6 inch round
Stock:
Gauge: 44 percussion
Finish: blue
Grips: walnut
Serial Number: 5732
Condition: Very good, with strong traces of the mostly cleaned original blue finish, showing a silver gray patina on the balance. Most of the original blue is in the protected areas, especially around the trigger guard and cylinder. There is some light pitting on the cylinder and ahead of the cylinder, and a few minor dings. The lightly sanded, reoiled grips are very good, with a few minor pressure dents and scratches. Unless noted above, the markings are crisp and clear. The action is fine.
