(Civil War) Confederate military manual, "Manual of Instruction, for the Volunteers and Militia of the Confederate States", by William Gilham, 1861, published by West & Johnston, Richmond, 559pp. The book originally belonged to A.W. White, who passed it on to Marion W. Jones in 1862, who at the time was serving as a 2nd Lt in Co. C, 31st Alabama Infantry. Both owners have signed the book, with Jones adding the various locations where he served in the Civil War. Ex-Library, originally from the Virginia Historical Society. Moderate wear, exterior has rubbing and small tears at spine. Interior has moderate foxing. Intact and scarce $200-300
