Produced by an unknown number of small manufacturers in the South during the course of the Civil War, duplication of Union regulation weapons was a popular activity, with this example following the design of the U.S. 1860 Light Cavalry Sword. Measuring 36 inches overall, with an unmarked, curved 30 1/2 inch single fuller blade. The grip is cast brass, in a 2-branch configuration with a phrygian helmet pommel and a wood grip with a black leather and untwisted wire pommel. With an iron scabbard, fitted with a low-profile throat, a pair of brass suspension bands, and a brass drag. A series of illustrations of similar weapons are present in William Albaugh's book Confederate Edged Weapons, with Figure 93 on page 137 being particularly close in design.
