Around 1,500 Burnside Third Model Carbines were produced in 1862. It retains the solid, unhinged or pivoted breechblock found on the Second Model but with a forearm. Two leaf rear sight graduated to 500 yards with traces of the cast-steel marking present on the barrel. The top of the receiver has the 1856 patent date (traces remain) and the lock plate has the two line Burnside address. A saddle ring bar with ring is mounted on the left side of the frame. The breechblock is numbered to the gun. Mounted with a smooth straight grip stock with a sling swivel.

Condition: Refinished overall with most of the markings lightly visible. The otherwise solid stock has a couple of putty filled repairs with scattered pressure dents. Mechanically fine.
