Civil War Burnside Saddle Ring Percussion Carbine
Purchased in quantity for use by the Federal Cavalry 1863-1864, the Burnside was very popular for its accuracy and reliability. This is a 5th Model carbine, with the signature guide screw on the right side of the frame, and corresponding groove in the breechblock. Blade front and two leaf folding rear sights, with the latter numbered 1, 3 and 5 and stamped "H" on the left side. A "G" is stamped on the barrel behind the rear sight and "CAST STEEL" in front of the sight. The top of the frame has the standard two line "Burnside Patent/Model of 1864" marking with a weak but legible two line address stamped on the lock plate. A saddle ring bar with ring is mounted on the left side of the frame. Two illegible cartouches are stamped on the left side of the wrist. Visible numbers match.

Good, with the metal surfaces having been cleaned and buffed bright at one time with some scattered minor pitting (mostly on the barrel). The sanded and reoiled wood is good with the exception of a few minor gouges and some minor dings. Mechanically fine.
