This riker box contains nine items found on the Yellville, Arkansas battlefield from the Civil War. It was November of 1862 when Union troops set to destroy the saltpeter works at Yellville. Saltpeter or Potassium Nitrate is a key ingredient to making gunpowder. By 1865 Yellville was largely destroyed. The items include a ring pull from a canteen, a combination tool screwdriver and nipple wrench for the Springfield musket/carbine, a backing plate for a pocket watch, the front cover from a pocket watch, a model 1857 Smith carbine locking plate (issued to the Union cavalry, most likely Illinois), a boot wear plate front, a boot wear plate heel, a haversack triangle harness ring, and a Bowie knife style guard.
