Civil War Americana Collection. (6 Items)
Civil War Americana Collection. This lot features six pieces of Civil War memorabilia, including one cabinet card, a stereoview, a carte de visite, two quartermaster's documents, and one tintype in a match case. The first item is a cabinet card (4.25" x 6.5") of a Union Army Cavalryman. He is wearing the double-breasted overcoat made for mounted troops as well the boots typical of a mounted soldier. The date of this photo is likely near the end of the war or after the war entirely. It is in near mint condition with a small nick on the bottom edge of the photo. The stereoview is one of several that were printed 25-30 years after the war to commemorate important battlefields and locations. These images were made from wet-plate images taken during wartime but reprinted onto stereoviews for the public to purchase. The one in particular is "General Meade's Headquarters at Gettysburg." In excellent condition with a full description of the scene and manufacturer on the verso. Some slight soiling present on the edge of the stereoview. The third item is a small CDV of Gordon Granger, a Union Army Major General. He commanded corps in the Army of the Cumberland and is best known for his role in the Battle of Chickamauga. A fine image with little to no soiling or yellowing. He is wearing his full uniform. The fourth and fifth items are quartermaster's documents from the Union Army. One of them even lists "pairs of handcuffs" as items received! These are in mint condition with several signatures on each. The sixth and final item is a tintype of a Union Soldier in a Dean and Emerson Military Mat of the eagle. The image of the soldier is quite dark but one can easily see he is a young man in his teens wearing his full dark uniform. The tintype is dark and has some spots of wear around the edge of the boy where the mat touched it. This photo sits proudly in a metallic match c
