(Civil War) A stunning matched pair of Remington pistols, serial numbers 54129 and 54833, presented to Major Loring W Muzzey. The pistols are in excellent condition, with ornate scrolling along the barrel and on the metal portion of the grip. They come in their original presentation case, with plaque on top reading "Presented to Maj Loring W Muzzey, Lexington, Mass." Major Loring W Muzzey was a resident of Lexington, Massachusetts, and a descendent of Benjamin Muzzey, who fought in the April 19, 1775 Revolutionary War battle at Lexington. He enlisted (June 6, 1861) in the Union Army at the outbreak of the Civil War, as a Quarter Master Sergeant in the 12th Massachusetts (Webster) Regiment. Muzzey was commissioned (March 21, 1864) in the U.S. Volunteers Commissary Department. His war record was exemplary, as a quartermaster and commissary in the Army of the Potomac. Muzzey rose in the ranks to Brevet Major and was in the battles of Bull Run, Cedar Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, and the Wildnerness. He served in the Army of the Potomac until General Robert E Lee surrendered at Appomattox, where Muzzey delivered supplies to the captive Confederate Army. Following the war Muzzey served in the 2nd Brigade of the Massachusetts State Militia. These pistols were presented to Major Muzzey for his Civil War services. $25,000-35,000
