City of New Orleans Report on Comic Books (1948). This fascinating study, published for use by the City of New Orleans, looks at the growing concerns of the influence comics had on children in the late 1940s. Compiled by Dave McGuire, then City Director of Public Relations, it tackles misconceptions about comic books head-on, blaming problems like juvenile delinquency on too little supervision from home, not from reading comics, and is generally positive in its recommendations concerning these four-color favorites. Take that, Dr. Wertham! The report runs 48 typed pages, and is in Very Good/Fine condition. A fantastic resource for comic historians! Not listed in Overstreet. From the Random House Archives.

Shipping: Small Flat (view shipping information)
