Cert. #198, issued in 1876 for a fractional share. Signed by the company officers (illegal). The capital stock of the bank was 2,000 shares at $100 each. Nevada City was a California gold rush town and deposits were discovered at Deer Creek in 1849. In the district, drift mining continued until the end of the 1800’s. The lode mines became productive in the late 1860’s and some operated into the 1890’s (Gudde). Citizen’s Bank operated during this period. The certificate has pen cancellation, a hole cancel and stub residue at the left.
