Citizen Soldier. Collection of sixteen newspapers, Norwich and Windsor, Vermont, Jan. 29-July 16, 1841 (fifteen) and one issue of Dec. 4, 1840. "A Military Paper," published by Swett & Jackson. On masthead, the motto "In time of peace, prepare for war." Vermont had a history of citizen-soldiers who proved to be very active in the Civil War. The first independent military college in America was founded in Norwich, Vt., by a former Superintendent of West Point. 8 pp. each, containing local and national news, stories with a military slant. Manuscript name "Maj. E. Wheeler" penned in blank margin of each issue, probably a subscriber. Original light folds, else fine. A rare title.
