Citizen Kane Xanadu Warehouse Crate Prop
Props from what most consider the greatest motion picture ever made, “Citizen Kane” (1941), are virtually nonexistent. So when one appears, it is a historic event. Especially something as iconic as one of the shipping crates seen in the famous long overhead dolly of Kane’s warehouse at the end of the film. It shows thousands of art works and statues that the now dead Kane bought throughout his lifetime years along with hundreds of his own personal possessions, ending, of course, with the most memorable shot in motion pictures: the reveal of his sled “Rosebud”, which is unceremoniously thrown into a massive furnace and burns before our eyes. This amazing dolly shot was created by Cinematographer Gregg Toland, who invented so many first-time innovative techniques for the film that Wells gave him a shared credit along with his own Directing credit. This is one of those iconic crates seen in this classic cinema scene. It has the original “TO/CHARLES FOSTER KANE – XANADU FLORIDA” hand stenciled on the side. The crate is aged dark brown. Comes with a Letter of Provenience. Because this precious prop is over 70 years old, please note that this precious rare prop is somewhat brittle (watch out for splinters), and because of this and its size special shipping charges will apply.
