Circa 1979 Ted Hendricks Game Worn Helmet. Known as the "Mad Stork", Hendricks was an All-American at Miami and All-Pro with the Colts before joining the Raiders' cast of strange but talented characters. The helmet exhibits outstanding features and is the ultimate Hendricks' headgear to have been offered to date. Its outer shell is painted Raiders' silver and sports the traditional black center stripe and Raiders' shield side logos. The lower back outer shell has Hendricks' number "83" in full squared off block font straddling either side of the stripe. These identifiers are original and intact. The "Riddell" made shell has the corporate logo printed on the Wildcat wide snubber. More importantly, it has unique forehead padding favored by Hendricks and an extremely rare single piece rubber clip engager which holds the top horizontal bar of the mask in place. Few items used this unorthodox clip style, but the Raiders, including Ken Stabler, were one of them. The mask is a full cage with reinforced center bar, the style used by Hendricks during this portion of his career. It has a green dot indicating a large size which allowed Hendricks to wear it closer to his face. The side clips are original and unbroken, a rarity given their brittle composition. The interior of the shell is equally as impressive. It employs the micro fit fluid cell padding with apropos stitch. The crown is stamped "11/79" with a markered year designator "'79" next to it; the jaw is stamped "B-9" and the size range is markered "71/8 - ¾." The stock favored leather jaw pads and they are gloriously present here in size extra large. Beyond the exciting technical feature is the quality of the overall wear. Numerous hits and embedded dings decorate the shell, the mask shows wonderful wear and the inside does as well. There is an overall consistency of strong wear which helps make this helmet a perfect ten. Add an original double low hook up chinstrap and you've got a Hendricks classic, simply the best ever offered. LOA from Lou Lampson.
