Circa 1956 Roger Maris Pre-Rookie Game Used Bat
Circa 1956 Roger Maris Pre-Rookie Era Game Used Bat. Presented for your consideration is almost certainly the earliest Roger Maris game used bat ever to reach the auction block. Louisville Slugger factory records show that Maris' orders for this block lettered style of Hillerich & Bradsby O16 in the Spring of 1956, before moving on to signature models for his Major League career beginning in the Spring of 1957. The thirty-five inches of length and thirty-five ounces of weight perfectly match the records for this era, as does the round knob style and standard finish. "Significant" is the adjective used by top bat expert Bushing to describe use, pointing to heavy ball marks and deeply imbedded stitch marks, as well as a fourteen-inch crack in the handle that ended the bat's service to the future single season Home Run King. For those collectors who wish to stand apart from the rest, this historic lumber is calling your name. Graded A7. LOA from Dave Bushing.
