This is a wonderful circa 1950’s Navajo Wide Ruins rug with beautiful weave and nice size. The rug exhibits a fine, tightly-spun yarn and flat, tight even weave with a combination of natural vegetal and aniline dyes showing common yellow, gold, brown, tan, grey, variation in the coloring itself indicates some natural dyes. Sally and William Lippincott were the owners of the trading post at Wide Ruins, Arizona and began working with weavers in the 1940’s developing a detailed banded pattern rendered in vegetal dyes. The Wide Ruins rugs designs have similarities to the Banded Chinle, Pine Ridge and some Crystal patterns with some variation and rarely with the color black and often incorporate bands of motifs. This example is overall well kept with a tight weave and no apparent major damages, some expected wear but overall good, all four corners fringes still intact. Measures overall without fringes 51.5-inches by 33.5-inches.
