Circa 1934 Babe Ruth Single Signed Baseball. Now deep into his eighties, our consignor still clearly recalls the thrill of meeting his baseball idol as a young schoolboy at Washington D.C.'s Griffith Stadium. His charming notarized letter of provenance details the moment wonderfully, reading in part, "I ran toward the Babe; at that moment a hostile looking usher appeared and ordered me off the field. Then I heard the Babe's friendly voice saying, 'That's OK. Come over here son.' He signed my ball. I thanked him profusely and he gave me that great big wonderful grin of his." He also notes, though admits he cannot be completely certain, that this may have well happened on the final day of the 1934 season, which would ultimately prove to be the Babe's last in a Yankees uniform. Whether this was the last ball signed as a Yankee or not, the appeal is undeniable. The black fountain pen sweet spot signature still maintains a boldness of 7/10, and the ONL (Heydler) ball, brought from home by the young fan, is evenly toned with a few scattered spots of foxing well clear of the autograph. A rock-solid specimen of an essential ball, made all the more appealing by its sweet history. LOA from PSA/DNA.
