<B>Circa 1930 Knute Rockne Signed Photograph.</B></I> The first major sports figure (followed by Rocky Marciano, Roberto Clemente and Thurman Munson) to perish in an airplane accident, Rockne presents a particular challenge to autograph collectors due to his sudden, untimely death in 1931. Here we present an especially desirable example of his tough signature, provided by the legendary Notre Dame coach to his personal physician upon a fine studio portrait photograph. Rockne inscribes upon the wide lower border of the image, "To my friend Dr. Clif Barborka, in deepest admiration, Knute Rockne." The black fountain pen ink maintains an impressive boldness of 9/10, and the photo itself is likewise in marvelous condition, with no noteworthy flaws. Including the simple wooden frame that houses it, the photo measures approximate 7.5x10" in size. A fine, dignified remembrance of this larger than life Golden Age figure. <I>LOA from PSA/DNA.
