Circa 1929 Jimmie Foxx Single Signed Baseball.
Circa 1929 Jimmie Foxx Single Signed Baseball. The second man to earn a key to the 500 Home Run Clubhouse is also the second toughest single of the group, with only the short-lived Mel Ott a scarcer commodity. This specimen will carry particular weight with serious collectors for its placement upon a pre-1934 OAL (Harridge) sphere. The red and blue stitching of the ball, and the placement of Harridge's facsimile signature on the eastern panel allows us to definitively date the ball to the first half of Double-X's Hall of Fame career, around the time he was powering the Philadelphia Athletics to three consecutive American League flags. Foxx' black fountain pen signature, just to the west of the ball's sweet spot, rates a fine 7/10, aided to some degree by an ancient coating of shellac that has given the ball a tobacco shade. With most Foxx solo balls dating to his post-playing days, one from the time of his greatest diamond exploits is a rare sight, and a genuine treasure for the baseball historian. LOA from PSA/DNA.
