Circa 1920s Legal Holiday Notice Sign. Tin sign mounted on light wood. The sign measures approximately 10.25" wide x 12.75" tall. Chain with "S" hook attached, making this item ready to hang. Also has hinged support for tabletop display. This eclectic piece of nostalgia surely hung in a shopkeeper's window to remind his or her customers of impending holidays. Empty, the sign reads, "Legal Holiday Today Election Day No Business Transacted." Mounting screws on each side of the words "Today" and "Election Day" allow for interchangeable dates when the shopkeeper would close for the day. These interchangeable signs are stored in the back of the frame, where the wood has been hollowed out to store them. Other dates when the shopkeeper might be closed include "Lincoln's Birthday", "Armistice Day", "Thanksgiving", "4th of July", and "Christmas". All of these signs are included with the piece, including designations for "Next Wednesday" and "Next Thursday", which could be placed over "Today" to give forewarning of an impending holiday. This is a very neat item, with some surface wear, but overall it is in very good condition. A real treat for any collector of Americana.

Shipping: Framed - with Glass, Small (view shipping information)
