<B>Circa 1920 Grover Cleveland Alexander Signed Baseball.</B></I> The slanted "Cork Center" words that frame the Official National League stamping of the offered sphere allow us to pin the manufacturing date to the period between 1914 and 1925, ensuring that the Alexander signature it houses is of "playing days" variety. As tough as it is to find Old Pete on any baseball whatsoever, those that do arise are typically the result of his later barnstorming activities, making this piece all the more scarce and desirable. As a legitimate "single," the price tag for this ball would be off the charts, but the lovely 6/10 black fountain pen autograph was once joined by several others which have been expertly removed by a chemical process to leave not even a pale ghost of their former presence. Those trying to complete a run of singles from the Hall of Fame's inaugural class will find this troubled but brilliant right-hander to be the toughest by far, so expect some real competition when this ball reaches the auction block. <I>LOA from PSA/DNA.
