Circa 1919 Joe Jackson Photograph by Conlon, Type 1. Is there a terrible secret burning behind those dark eyes? This masterful portrait of the immensely talented Shoeless Joe dates from the era of his tragic fall, as he and seven teammates conspired to throw the World Series for underworld gamblers. A tough baseball life is evident in the lines of Jackson's face, which are captured with crystal clarity by the famous Sporting News photographer Conlon. Various editors markings are evident on the chest of Joe's White Sox jersey and at the upper borders. Verso has twin "Charles M. Conlon" stamps. Clipped bottom right corner is the only condition issue of note, otherwise wear is confined to touches at the edges and corners. Photo measures 6.5x8.5".
