Circa 1890-1940's Northern Sioux Ledger Drawing
Featured in this lot is an original ledger drawing from the Northern Sioux dating to circa 1890-1940s from the Robert Dickens Little Blue Hand collection. These ledger drawings are from the same ledger book collection offered and sold from our company back in 2013. The original ledger book would have been traded to the Northern Sioux and was said to be handed down from their ancestor’s at the Sioux Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and later traded to the collector many years ago back in the 1970-1980s. The set ranging in age from circa 1890 on and is mostly believed to be drawn in circa 1920-1930s. This piece of artwork shows a page extracted from a 19th century ledger book and is double-sided with the first side showing a group of Native American hunters with rifles in there hands surrounding a herd of buffalo and wearing traditional Northern Sioux garments. The second side shows a band of Native American hunters cornering a herd of buffalo and shooting arrows at them and finishing one off with a lance. The condition of this ledger art is well preserved with some small tears to the edges of the ledger and some wear to the colors due to age but otherwise is well preserved. The measurements of this ledger art are 16 5/8"L x 13 3/4"W.*
