Circa 1890-1940's Northern Sioux Ledger Drawing
This is an original ledger drawing from the Northern Sioux dating to circa 1890-1940s from the Robert Dickens Little Blue Hand collection. These ledger drawings are from the same ledger book collection offered and sold from our company back in 2013. The original ledger book would have been traded to the Northern Sioux and was said to be handed down from their ancestor’s at the Sioux Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and later traded to the collector many years ago back in the 1970-1980s. The set ranging in age from circa 1890 on and is mostly believed to be drawn in circa 1920-1930s. The piece shows an original circa late 19th Century Ledger book page marked in feather ink pen “Chris Peterson” with the accounting ledger information below, atop is the colored pencil and graphite pencil ledger drawing of two Chief or Warriors in full war regalia. There are two Warriors both on horseback with the horses having yellow and blue geometric painted finish. The regalia includes war shields with Ghost Dance and thunderbird patterns, both holding long lance spears with one in a long trailing feather headdress and the other in a split Bison Buffalo horn headdress war bonnet along with a rifle and bow / arrow. Original condition well preserved and displays beautifully. The ledger page itself measures about 15.75”L x 10.5”W in a frame that is 18.25”L x 12.25”W.*
