<B>Circa 1840s Handpainted Rowing Porcelain Cup</B></I> The storied tradition of crew is captured in fine handpainted imagery on this wonderful porcelain cup almost certainly originating from the British Isles. Two teams clad in striped uniforms race sweep-oar boats as a sailboat drifts in the distance. This vignette is evocative of the great nineteenth century contests between major English universities such as Oxford and Cambridge. Condition is first rate, with no chips or cracks to be found. No apparent maker's mark.
