Cincinnati Late Classical Secretary Bookcase
possibly the shop of Luman Watson, ca 1815-1820. Carved mahogany secretary bookcase, with peaked pediment cornice above a cove molded frieze, a pair of glazed doors flanked by columns with acanthus leaf capitols. The frieze drawer on the case is with a fitted interior and flanked by carved rosettes, all rising on ring and rope turned legs, ending in ball feet; 74" high x 37.5" wide x 23.5" deep.

Note: Jane E. Sikes in the Furniture Makers of Cincinnati - 1790 to 1849, illustrates this piece and attributes it to the 'factory' of Luman Watson, clockmaker and cabinetmaker, who had a Cincinnati shop from 1815 until 1834.(See Sikes, The Furniture Makers of Cincinnati, pp. 243.)

Condition: moisture damage to finish of one leg; minor veneer losses.
