Cilicia, Tarsos. Gordian III, 238-244 A.D., AE 35 (26.10 g). Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right, holding spear, shield/ Lion attacking bull kneeling to right. SNG Von Aulock 6038. About VF, dark patina with coarse surfaces. Rare type. Military busts of the emperors were seldom used on the large bronzes of this city. This coin is further interesting in that the reverse type hearkens back to devices found on Cilician silver of the fourth century B.C.
