Chumash Indians of California. Stunning piece. Steatite set with shell beads. This effigy dates from 1200-1600. These effigies were used by the Chumash as charms to ensure luck in fishing or hunting along the California Coast. 3 3/8" by 3" by 2". Comparable examples can be found in the Portland Museum of Art, and The Seattle Museum of Art. PUBLISHED: Native American Heritage.
