Card measures 3" x 5" and has been hand-signed twice, on the front and the back, in blue and black ink pen by Chuck Yeager.
Chuck Yeager is a retired brigadier general in the United States Air Force and record setting test pilot. In 1947 he became the first pilot confirmed to have exceeded the speed of sound in level flight.
Yeager began as a private in the United States Army Air Forces in World War II. After serving as an aircraft mechanic, in September 1942 he entered enlisted pilot training and upon graduation was promoted to the rank of flight officer and became a P-51 fighter pilot.
After the war, Yeager became a test pilot and was later promoted to brigadier general. His flying career spans over 60 years and has taken him to every corner of the globe, including the Soviet Union during the height of the Cold War.
A portion of the sale of this auction will be donated to the General James. H Doolittle Scholarship Fund. The General James H. Doolittle Scholarship Fund was founded to assist college students by awarding one scholarship annually in the maximum amount of $5,000 to a deserving student who is pursuing a baccalaureate or advanced degree in aeronautical engineering or an aerospace science. Students are selected based on their scholastic achievement, school and community participation, demonstrated leadership potential and financial need.
