Flown airmail cover carried on a flight of the Bell X-1A rocket plane by Chuck Yeager on December 12, 1953, signed in fountain pen, "Charles E. Yeager, Major USAF." The cover is filled out with typed information: "This cover was carried in a U.S.A. Rocket Test Flight by courtesy of the Hon.," and marked in pencil, "Dec. 12-1953." In fine condition. On December 12, 1953, Yeager flew his Bell X-1A to Mach 2.435, approximately 1,650 miles per hour, at Edwards Air Force Base in California—setting a speed record that would stand for three years.
