Fryer Hill. Incorporated in New York in October 1879. Cert. #8457, issued to Bergen R. Carman for 100 shares. Signed by President R.W. Raymond and Secretary Henry Cooper. Endorsed on the reverse by Chas. W. Carman for the estate of Bergen R. Carman, and by executives of the Nassau National Bank of Brooklyn. Green border and under print (“One Hundred”), with a central mining vignette. U /C. Printer: ABN Co., New York. Datelined Leadville. The stock comes with a 32-page photocopy of the articles of incorporation. Winfield Scott Keyes was the general manager of the company. Two notable names from the Board of Trustees are Horace A.W. Tabor, Lt. Gov. of Colorado, and Ulysses S. Grant, Jr. of New York. The company owned 66 acres on Fryer Hill, one mile from Leadville. Over 5000' of shafts and 28,000'+ of drifts with numerous other workings. The ore was of lead carbonates and argentiferous iron. Production prior to 1882 totaled 60,000 tons yielding 2.2 million ounces of silver worth $1.6 million after cost of mining.
