RARE Chronart electric Polar Bird mantel clock, produced by the New Jersey Clock Company from 1930-1932 in celebration of Admiral Byrd's (then Lieutenant Commander Richard Byrd Jr.) and Pilot Floyd Bennett's flight over the North Pole in 1926. It has a Hammond "spin-start" movement. Spin the airplane's propeller blades to start the time keeping and the propeller continues to turn just like a seconds hand on a clock. Spin the blades backward and the clock keeps time in reverse. The case is made of wood composite and is in overall good condition except for one 1-1/2" crack on the top. Gold embossing on the front shows some wear. The clock is wired but is missing the plug so not sure if it works. The case is 8.5"H x 7.5"W x 2.75"D.
