Together with Jeanne-Claude Christo became famous for their spectacular environments; the lithograph ‘Wrapped Telephone’ fetches up to 8,500 euro at international auctions

‘Wrapped Telephone’ is a lithograph in colors and collage with thread and photograph by Christo from 1985. Depicted is a sketch for the project of a wrapped telephone in the scope of the project of ‘wrapped’ objects by the artist couple. The lithograph was published by L.M. Ericsson, New Jersey. Christo and Jeanne-Claude are famous for their spectacular environments.



The work is signed and dated in pencil on the right in the depiction ‘Christo 85’, as well as numbered in pencil on the right in the depiction ‘23/100’. The work is in very good condition; merely the frame shows some minimal traces of wear. The dimensions of the depiction are 69.5 x 54.5 cm and the framed dimensions are 74 x 59 cm.



Christo and Jeanne-Claude

Christo (Christo Wladimirow Jawaschew) was born in Gabrowo, Bulgaria in 1935. He was married to Jeanne-Claude (born in Casablanca, 1935). The artist couple created works of art until Jeanne-Claude’s death in 2009. Christo’s art developed from the French Nouveau réalisme movement and Assemblage techniques. The couple gained international renown by their ‘veiling’ of buildings - notably the Reichstag in Berlin, 1995. (tm)
