This auction sale catalog includes numismatic material from the United States that was recovered from the wreck of the SS Central America. The sale contains 169 lots of gold coins (mostly eagles and double eagles) and gold bars, including many from rare California private mints. The 'SS Central America' sank off the North Carolina coast in 1857 while transporting bullion and gold rush miners from Panama to New York City. The catalog also includes an inventory list of the gold coins recovered and certified by PCGS, an inventory list by assayer and serial number of the gold ingots recovered, and a description of the shipwreck and salvage.
