Christian Bale schoolboy uniform worn throughout many opening scenes of ''Empire of the Sun'', Steven Spielberg's 1987 coming-of-age war film based on a J.G. Ballard novel. Bale gained critical acclaim as the star of the film playing Jamie ''Jim'' Graham, a young boy whose life rapidly changes as he goes from living in a wealthy British family in Shanghai, to becoming a prisoner of war in a WWII Japanese internment camp. Made by the famed London costumier ''Angels'', schoolboy costume includes: (1) newsboy-style cap with the Shanghai School crest patch featuring the British Union flag and three lions and ''CB (Jim)'' handwritten to inseam. Measures 6.75'' in diameter; (2) wool maroon blazer with same patch sewn to chest pocket, ''CB Jim'' and ''30C'' handwritten to ''Angels London'' costumier tag. Measures 15'' shoulder-to-shoulder and 27'' in length; (3) pair of grey wool shorts with ''28 CB'' handwritten to inseam, denoting his initials and waist size, and measuring 18'' in length. Costume is housed on a customized mannequin stand measuring 24'' x 64'' with a red-and-white ''Empire of the Sun'' style base. Fine. With COA from the Prop Store.
