TLS, two pages, 8.5 x 11, December 15, 2005. Letter to the students of special education teacher James van Buskirk of Barstow, California. Kraft begins by writing about the "very hostile environment" of space before stating that he believes that future explorers will go "back to the moon to establish permanent bases for both scientific and industrial purposes" due to its many natural resources. On traveling to Mars, Kraft notes that "unmanned spacecraft and robots" will be sent first, and humans will make the voyage once "technology is developed to support the people who go there." Presaging the more recent launches by Blue Origin and Virgin Galactic, Kraft writes: "In the not too distant future, private citizens will be able to travel to space for both experimental and pleasurable purposes. At first it will be very expensive but in the future people will fly long distances in space as a normal means of transportation much the same as flying in an airplane to far off places like Asia and the middle east today." In fine condition.
