Handsome Chinga iron ataxite meteorite slice, impressively polished to a mirror finish on both sides. The full slice weighs 175.2 grams and measures approximately 166 mm x 68 mm x 3 mm. The Chinga 'silverfish' iron, found in rural Russia in 1913, is an unusual meteorite type known as an ataxite. Very rich in nickel (over 16%), it does not show the characteristic iron meteorite Widmanstatten pattern when treated with acid in the laboratory. However, with careful polishing, slices do acquire a glorious chrome-like mirror finish. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity signed by Geoff Notkin of Aerolite Meteorites Inc. and the TV show Meteorite Men, as well as a specimen identification card.
