A skillfully carved old shop stamp from Beijing. The company - 'Fu Shun Tang Ji' -
dealt in textiles, especially flannelette and wool from overseas and Chinese silk.

'Fu' means good fortune.'Shun'means smoothly. So the two words used together show the owner wishing that his business will always bring good fortune by running smoothly. 'Tang' means hall and 'Ji' means shop. In the past, these words were frequently used together after shop names in China. The big 'Ding'(burner) in the center is probably the company logo. 'Ding' is a symbol of luck in the Chinese culture, representing good fortune and a satifying social environment.
Very good condition.

Late 19th century, Beijing, North China.
