Early 19th century Official's Seal box is red lacquered and comes from Shanxi Provence,China.Made of Yumu,northern elmwood. Has removable tray and plate rest. This type of box was used to store official Chops,stone pieces,carved with official seals on one end used in stamping documents in ink or was., The Chops were stored underneath the removable tray.The removable plate was used to place documents on which were to be sealed. Threee interior drawers and concealed compartment below the bottom drawer. Brass decorative latch and side handles along with drop pulls,all original. Makes an exceptional jewelry box or other accent piece with storage today. Super condition. Measures 17H X 17L X 12D.
