Chinese Porcelain Rose Medallion Gilt Ginger Jar
Featured in this lot is a Chinese 12 inch high Porcelain Vintage Rose Medallion Gilt Ginger Jar, circa early 1900. Provenance: Private collection, Big Sky, Montana. Hand painted and glazed in classic pastel colours with a surround landscape on this hand made jar. This classic Chinese shaped jar with lid is painted with a design full of details and colour. This high shouldered piece depicts foliage surrounding a royal courtyard event. The markings on the bottom read "Qian Long Nian Zhi" (Made During Reign of Qian Long) in zhuanshu script. This style of mark was particularly favoured in the Qianlong period. Chinese artisans copied reign marks from earlier dynasties out of a respect and reverence for these earlier periods. These marks are often referred to in auction catalogue descriptions as ‘apocryphal’ marks. A band of rectangular lappets borders the base and auspicious ruyi border the neck. This ginger jar is in good overall condition, bottom edge exhibits slight scuffing from normal use, residue from tape noted across mouth area, no other obvious marring observed. Measures 8.5" diameter x 12"H approximately. Weight approximate 5lb, 6oz
