In antiquity, the cloisonné technique was mostly used for jewelry and small fittings for clothes, weapons or similar small objects decorated with geometric or schematic designs, with thick cloison walls. By the 14th century this enamel technique had spread to China, where it was soon used for much larger vessels such as bowls and vases; the technique remains common in China to the present day, and cloisonné enamel objects using Chinese-derived styles were produced in the West from the 18th century. This vase is in good display condition showing classic Chinese decorations with a two large nature scenes on either side of the vase showing multiple birds in flight set to a vibrant landscape of hills and a willow tree, with flowers underneath all set to a river backdrop at the bottom. The neck of the vase shows staggered scenes of two different flowers with stripes of floral scenes throughout this vase. Stamped on the bottom is Made in China. The measurements of this vase are 12" x 4" diameter at its largest measurement.
