Offered to you in this lot is a set of three beaded collars, originating from the Straits-Born Chinese, otherwise known as Peranakan Chinese. The Peranakan are the descendants of Chinese immigrants, who came to what is now Malaysia and Singapore, between the 15th & 17th centuries. The traditional Peranakan garb typically depicts European style floral subjects - these collars are no exception. Each collar is constructed on early trade cloth, and fully beaded with; robin egg blue, and chalk white trade seed beads as the predominant colors, the collars additionally show a wide array of polychrome trade seed beads, arranged in traditional floral, and geometric motifs. The collars show good condition for age, and are believed to originate from the late 1800's, to the early 1900's. The collars are roughly the same size, however, the largest measures 15" long, and 3 1/4" wide.
