This large octagonal antique lacquerware box and lid is decorated using tianqi (filled-in) and qiangjin (incised gold) techniques on a cinnabar-red ground. The top of the cover features a central floral medallion surrounded by scrolling lotus vines and the Bajixiang (Eight Buddhist Treasures). The sloping sides of the lid and base are decorated with lobed cartouches containing botanical arrangements such as peony, chrysanthemum, plum blossom, and bamboo, set against a gold diaper-patterned background. The areas between the cartouches are filled with dark scrolling foliate designs. The interior and base are finished in polished black lacquer. The base features a six-character incised and gilded reign mark in two vertical columns.
