The piece features a wonderfully carved white and red jade belt hook on a finely crafted brass letter opener. The belt hook is very finely carved showing a rare Imperial mythological scene with a meandering Chilong on the shaft confronting the Dragons head. The piece is crafted from “pure” white jade with natural red “warrior” jade across the top and is from the 17th to 18th century (from the Ming Dynasty 1368-1644 to Qing (Ch'ing) Dynasty 1644-1912). Shortly after the creation of the jade belt hook it was thought to have been integrated into this brass letter opener. The letter opener is exquisitely detailed showing a hand etched design across the front sides and back. This is one of the finest carved jade belt hook and solid brass letter openers from this time period and shows excellent condition for its age. Measures overall 10.75”L and 1”W. The belt hook is 3.75”L x 3/4”W x 1”H.
