This ginger jar is a beaut! Standing 18 1/2 inches high, it is 10 inches wide at its widest point. Its lid features a 3-inch high nob. It has a 6-inch base.

The ginger jar shows a chrysanthemum decor in a series of cartouches around the top of the jar and lid as well as a chrysanthemum design on both sides of the jar in blue-green, red, gold, yellow, spring green, and pink. All of this is on a white crackle glaze background, similar to what Lawton Gonder later emulated and perfected for Gonder Pottery. The jar is rimmed in gold at the top and the bottom.

This item originally was distributed by Frederick Cooper of Chicago: this seal as well as a three-character mark are on the bottom of the jar. This mark, which is shown in the pictures, is an octagon, within which is a circle, then a bell-shaped figure. The three (3) Chinese characters are just below the octagon.

The jar shows a felt ring on the bottom for protection. As the felt ring shows, there is a chink where the beginning and end meet: this is in the felt only and not out of the jar. The jar itself is absolutely intact and in perfect condition!

This will make a wonderful addition to a ginger jar collection!
