Traditional Chinese two-stringed bowed instrument known as an erhu. This example features a hardwood body with a cylindrical sound box covered in natural snake skin. It includes two carved wooden tuning pegs and a matching hardwood bow strung with horsehair. A rope loop secures the strings at the base. The erhu is widely used in Chinese classical and folk music for its expressive, vocal-like sound.
