Chinese Carved Rosewood Statue of Shou Lao, mid-20th century, the large-headed deity clad in loose robes holding his staff in one hand and carrying his magical gourd over one shoulder, standing on a rockwork base with an attendant crane. Shou Lao is standing next to a child and holding his staff and a scroll. The staff and scroll are symbols of longevity and wisdom. The crane at his side, is tugging at his ceremonial robes, depicting the symbolism of the crane as a creature that aids in the communication with divinities. Shou Lao's head is enlarged to exhibit wisdom, his beard is long to symbolize long life. Measures 26''.
