?Zhu Huang?is a technique invented in Qing dynasty, the outer skin of the bamboo is removed. The remaining thin layer of bamboo is then cooked, dried, pressed and then attached to a wood based material. The technique is time consuming and involves a lot of skill.

The front of this wonderful panel is painted with a pair of magpie preening and resting on a camellia branch. Underside is a plain Tie Huang panel with brass hanging hook. Minor cracks and slight expansion due to age and dryness, otherwise it is a rare find! Early 20th century.
