Chief’s grade flintlock trade musket with serpentine side-plate, lock marked Ketland & Co. The dome measures 51-1/2” overall with 35-1/4” barrel, approx. .60 caliber smoothbore. Gun is full stocked to the muzzle and of light to medium weight showing lightly engraved brass mounts, triggerguard shows arrows, shield, and feather motif, buttplate shows fox and horn, as does the rear of the lock. The tang area shows anoriginal silver plaque with chief’s portrait. The gun is in good to very good condition showing a brown patina finish, some light cleaning long ago, scattered light to moderate pitting and erosion. Stocks are good to very good with some light cleaning, but good edges. Silver chief’s plaque completely untouched with nice patina. The flintlock is in its original state with correct hammer, frizzen, small parts, etc. These high-gradechief’s trade guns are very desirable to collectors and this is a nice example. Note: There are the letters “IB” stamped within the piercing of the serpentine sideplate and on the rear of the tang, which is identified as
